Fayard and Harold Nicholas started performing at a very young age, the line up was originally Fayard and his sister, but she pulled out for personal reasons. This set back brought young Harold into the picture and it quickly became apparent that there was a magical chemistry between the two.

After appearing in many stage musicals and clubs, especially The Cotton Club, they got their first appearance in a Hollywood film in 'Kid millions' and appeared in numerous films after that.

There fame quickly spread through out the world and they appeared in Europe. There was also a lot of rivalry from other great performers who would argue about billing and performance placement. When you had a line up of acts waiting to go on the last act on would have the greatest advantage because they could see what their competition was doing and also improve upon what the other acts had done or include other material the other acts had not included. The last group on can usually do things the previous performers left out and were able to gauge what was needed to out do other preceding act.

It is sad that the brothers didn't really get a the proper exposure or title rolls in the films of that time due to the underling racial discrimination, that became all too apparent as they aged. The closest they came to it was this back ally time step with the well known Fred Astair, who was probably all too aware of the threat these two young dancers posed. I'm sure that this was a great memorable experience for the brothers because at the time Fred Astair was one of the biggest movie head liners.

As the brothers matured they appeared in a number of all black cast films, but still with limited speciality appearances in major Hollywood films. The fantastic moves and execution of numerous splits, flip and spins left audiences demanding replays in the cinema's through out predominantly Afro America areas where they played films they appeared in.

The brothers split for a while round about the 50s and both pursued separate careers and Harold went to Europe. In 1964 the two were the reunited in a TV special shown above, and have both appeared in cameo parts in many films and TV shows there after. We hope they will continue to give us all pleasure through their recorded work and there enjoyable presence.
